Why Mace Windu’s Lightsaber Changed From Blue To Purple In Star Wars

Pretty much everyone who’s seen Star Wars knows that Mace Windu’s lightsaber is purple. The Jedi master brought fans wisdom and thrills throughout the prequel movies and did much of it with his trademark purple weapon in hand. It wasn’t always that color, however. And to make matters more interesting, the switch can be explained in more than one way.

It’s no mystery to Star Wars fans that Samuel L. Jackson asked George Lucas to change his saber color before Attack of the Clones. The legendary actor was simply concerned about his character getting lost in the vast blue and green lightsaber squabble that was the Battle of Geonosis. And honestly, can you blame him?.

Before that, however, Windu wielded a weapon of a different color, one that was blue. While the change from blue to purple can be sufficiently explained with the aforementioned story, another explanation can be found in the greater Star Wars universe. Or Legends, if you will.

In this world of all things Star Wars, there was a comic called Emissaries to Malastare, which showcased multiple Jedi taking part in an exercise where they swapped blades with each other. In this ritual, Mace Windu traded his purple lightsaber for a blue one, which explains why he carried that color weapon before Attack of the Clones.

So, as you can see, there’s more to this great Jedi’s saber preferences than one might know from simply experiencing the movies alone. Strangely enough, this is also an interesting example of the many bits of Star Wars lore that aren’t particularly well known to most casual fans. Nevertheless, that galaxy far, far away runs deep and there’s always more to discover in its depths.

James Gunn Says They’re Talking About A Brightburn Sequel

James Gunn’s latest film, Brightburn (which he produced), released earlier this year and proved to be a little more divisive than his other more recent offerings. The pic portrayed a darker version of the Superman mythos (albeit without the namesake character) where an alien crashes on earth but doesn’t quite become a world-saving hero.

Just like with the Man of Steel, the protagonist is taken in by a loving family and cared for, but when his powers start to develop, instead of becoming a benevolent protector, he turns on those around him and ends up as something of a villain, showcasing that good and evil is essentially just a flip of a coin.

And while it didn’t receive the universal acclaim that some had expected, its audacity and forward thinking were constantly applauded, and its garnered its fair share love in the ensuing months. Given that it made over $30 million off a budget of just $6 million, and Hollywood loves nothing more than a chance to franchise, talk has inevitably now turned to a sequel.

Brightburn

Recently, on Instagram, a fan asked the erstwhile director if there was any chance Brightburn would receive a follow up and if he’d return to produce. Gunn replied by stating that:

“I think I’m tied up for the next few years with Suicide Squad and the Guardians [of the Galaxy] but we’re talking about the sequel.”

It’s clear from this response that any continuation of the story is a few years out at least, but this gives hope that there is interest, not only from the fandom, but also the folks at Screen Gems and Sony, who produced and distributed the film, respectively.

Especially because the movie ended with the revelation that there are more superpowered beings inhabiting the earth, the opportunities for expansion are ripe for the picking. The fact that Brightburn is an original property makes the possibilities all the more enticing, too, as this could truly turn into something different and special.

Stranger Things Season 3 Has A Shocking Post-Credits Scene

Stranger Things 3 finally touched down on Netflix yesterday, July 4th, and fans simply couldn’t wait to watch Eleven, Mike, Hopper and the rest of the Hawkins gang on their latest adventure. In fact, most viewers immediately binge-watched the entire eight-episode third season in one go, choosing to forget the Independence Day celebrations and instead spend time with the spooky supernatural series.

But for those of you who perhaps aren’t so dedicated, and are still working your way through the new run, know that there’s a post-credits scene once the season comes to an end. And in case you weren’t aware from the title of this article, we’ll say that from here on out, we’ll be diving into full spoiler territory – so turn back now if you’ve yet to finish watching. Or continue on if you simply can’t wait to find out what awaits you after the credits. The choice is yours.

Still with us? Good, because we’re about to dive in…

The scene in question shows us that in an area in Russia identified as Kamchatka, there’s a Soviet facility that’s housing a Demogorgon, who we see about to attack a poor prisoner before the screen cuts to black. Just the very fact that there’s a Demogorgon though means the danger isn’t over despite the gang’s actions in the finale.

How exactly the creature got there is still unclear, but either way, the fact that it’s able to exist with no apparent connection to the Mind Flayer is certainly interesting. And, of course, it makes you wonder, why exactly are the Russians housing a Demogorgon? What do they plan on using it for?

Then there’s also that bit at the start of the scene, where a reference is made to a mysterious American prisoner who we don’t get to see. Who exactly is this, and is he/she related to the events in Hawkins? Could it be Hopper? Or perhaps Matthew Modine’s Dr. Brenner?

The questions are endless, but with producer Shawn Levy already promising that Stranger Things will return for season 4, fans can rest easy knowing they’ll eventually get answers.

David Harbour Addresses If Hopper Will Return In Stranger Things Season 4

Sheriff Jim Hopper had a pretty transformative character arc over the course of the second season of Stranger Things. It began with the reveal that he’d been hiding Eleven away in his cabin for her own safety and wrapped up with him legally adopting the telekinetic teen, which also helped him move away from the grief of losing his own daughter in the past.

For season 3, things get even more interesting from Hopper, as the character is given a ton of moments to shine and makes a pretty big impact. As you’ll know if you’ve already finished the latest run, which we imagine you have if you’re reading this, the Sheriff unfortunately meets his maker in the last episode when he’s disintegrated by the particle accelerator in the Russian lab.

But does that really mean he’s gone for good? Given the sci-fi nature of the show, is there a chance he could one day return? Perhaps, and here’s what actor David Harbour, who plays the character, had to say about it:

“There’s always discussion on set about kicking around ideas about what would be cool and stuff, but there’s a lot of stuff that goes down in season three that you’re going to want to pay attention to before you start thinking at all about the future,” he teases. “They pulled no punches with the season, and it’s a big deal what goes down. So you really have to watch this before you start even speculating.”

Speaking on the season 3 finale, the actor was full of praise for what the team accomplished, saying:

“I was yelling at the television screen, and I’m not that type of guy, but I think it really has outdone itself. And I would be very surprised if this wasn’t your favorite season, and I’d certainly be very surprised if you didn’t think that episode eight was the best thing we’ve ever shot, because I’m convinced that that episode is so, so unexpected, so beautiful, so big, so tight. Not a second of downtime, not a second where you’re waiting for anything. To me, it’s a masterpiece. Episode eight is a masterpiece.”

We definitely agree with him there, as the last episode of the new run was truly terrific. Emotional, exhilarating and full of surprises, it had it all. But it also had, as mentioned above, the death of Hopper. Whether he’s really gone for good remains to be seen, but if you ask us, we don’t think we’ve seen the last of David Harbour on Stranger Things.
